Judith Bertling Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Judith Ann (Loftis) Bertling, of Woodridge, IL, who departed this world on January 20, 2026, at the age of 86 with her daughter Ann by her side. Judy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Richard Bertling, and children Joni Marie Wyszynski, Joseph Bertling, and Julia Marie Bertling.

Judith, lovingly known as Judy, was born on September 29, 1939, in Amhurst Junction, WI to Stella (Koziczkowski) and Anthony "Tony" Loftis. Growing up alongside her siblings - Patricia "Pat" Shope, James "Jim" Loftis, Ruth Miley, and Marge Wolding. She cherished summers spent water skiing, swimming, and riding bikes, memories she carried with her throughout life.

George and Judy blended their families from previous marriages, welcoming Julie Marie (Dworzan), George Jr., Joni Marie, Joseph "Joe", and Julie Marie "Little Julie". The family continued to grow with the births of Ann Marie, and then shortly after moving from Wisconsin to Illinois, Richard "Rick" Francis was born. Judy's legacy lives on in her grandchildren - Jessica Lynn, Ashley Nicole, Michael "Mikee" George, Katelyn Marie, Kyra Jade, Dominique Josephine "DJ", Alena, Lauren Elizabeth, and Leah Rose, as well as several great-grandchildren all of whom she adored deeply whether near or far.

Professionally Judy excelled during a distinguished career with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, where in high-level management roles she traveled across the United States negotiating multi-million-dollar contracts. A strong woman born during the Great Depression, Judy was a fierce and respected negotiator who helped break the glass ceiling and pave the way for future generations of women professionals-all while raising what we affectionately referred to as "the Brady Bunch" at home.

Judy was a devout Episcopalian, guided throughout life by faith. In her younger years she taught Sunday school, and in later years received the Rector's Cross from St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Waupaca, Wisconsin and completed advanced adult religious studies. Judy believed deeply that each person's relationship with God is unique, teaching that the Holy Spirit lives within each of us-faithful and righteous-empowering us to live according to God's word.

Judy/Mom/Gram often said, "Do the best you can, that's all I ask." That's what she did, and while we will miss her terribly, in loving memory, we promise to do the best we can.

Per Judy's request there will be no services, and she will be buried next to her husband in Hill Crest Cemetery, Bolingbrook, IL.

Condolences may be sent to the Bertlings at 2229 Wharf Drive #1104, Woodridge, IL 60517.
